Jonathan Thornton serves as Chief Philanthropy Officer at Civic News Company, overseeing fundraising teams that support the journalism of Chalkbeat, Votebeat, and Healthbeat. He brings extensive experience from executive roles in revenue strategy and execution at organizations focused on education, juvenile justice, healthcare, and literacy initiatives.

Jon’s fundraising career began at an national education advocacy organization that grew from $15m to $60m in two years, experience he translated into six years at College Track, a national college completion program. While at College Track, Jon served as the Vice President of Development, leading national foundation and corporate fundraising, managing a team of fundraisers across the country, and the organization’s revenue operations team. During Jon’s tenure, the organization grew from $11m to $30m in annual revenue.

Over the last five years, Jon has specialized in leading the revenue strategy for organizations preparing to scale their impact, including Make-A-Wish, Aim High, and Raising a Reader.
Jon grew up in Sacramento, where he currently resides with his wife, Deborah, their two daughters, and his dog, Brutus.
