Nicholas Ratcliffe brings a career in information technology spanning diverse environments, from nonprofit organizations to global technology companies. As Senior Director of IT & Security at Civic News Company, he leads the technology and cybersecurity strategy that supports the organization’s newsrooms — Chalkbeat, Votebeat, and Healthbeat — and its fully remote staff across the country.

Nicholas joined Civic News Company in 2022 as its first dedicated technology leader, building the IT function from the ground up, including infrastructure, service operations, and vendor strategy for a distributed workforce. In 2025, he launched the organization’s formal cybersecurity program, encompassing security awareness training, risk management, and incident readiness — helping ensure the journalists and staff of Civic News can do their work securely.

Nicholas is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Outside of work, Nicholas is an avid coin collector and enjoys world history and traveling.
